Phillip's Journey
Phillip Hatfield, personally mentored and coached by the legendary Zig Ziglar
but that’s not where the story begins. As a teenager, Phillip built his foundation of Success & Achievement working for his father’s construction company. He moved into the hospitality industry at age 24 with Regency Hotel Systems and at 26 he became the youngest General Manager and Vice-President in the history of the National Hotel and Hospitality Industry.
The Ramada Incident
Inspired by Zig Ziglar’s book See You at the Top, Phillip created a standard for transformational leadership and teamwork, designing and teaching Processes, Procedures, and Systems that led to the hotel’s recovery and revival. The results proved to be Exceptional, and the hotel went on to host the Ms. Texas Beauty Pageant for several years. Phillip quickly earned a reputation as “The Turn-Around Guy.”
Quickly became VP over three Five-Star Ramada Hotel’s in the Franchise Group. Taking over the Ramada hotel after a devastating Fire that killed five people and hospitalized thirty-three, Phillip took on the enormous task of rebuilding the hotel and employees. He also helped mend the shattered lives of those affected by the fire: hotel guests and staff and employees as well as the families of those who died. Phillip labored side-by-side with the construction team and the hotel employees, even washing dishes, making beds, cooking and waiting tables when needed. This is where Phillip learned about Authenticity in Leadership and his Transformational Leadership Style and becoming a “People Builder”
Personal Tragedy
On November 9, 2008, Phillip’s life took a devastating, irreversible turn when he was involved in a horrible accident. He ended up in the hospital with a broken back, broken ribs, and his abdomen literally burst open. He had three blood clots: one in his heart, one in his leg, and one in his lung. His left leg suffered 27 breaks from his hip to his toes, including his femur bone snapping in half. He was given sixty-seven pints of blood, and almost died seven times. His left leg was injured so severely that it had to be amputated below the knee.
After his eventual release from the hospital, he required and prosthetic leg and several months of Physical therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech & Cognitive Therapy to be able to walk, think, reason and think again. The road to recovery has been long and hard! Recovery will never be complete. He is left with numerous medical complications that will follow him for the rest of his life. But he is alive! And for that he is truly thankful.
The Power to Overcome
Phillip understands the crisis of change on a personal, professional, and even physical level. He has worked hard to overcome obstacles and break through barriers in each of those areas. He has established a track record of transformational leadership – and a reputation as “The Turn-Around Guy” – in his 25+ years as a successful businessman in several industries.
He uses his diverse experiences to help his audiences transform their personal and professional lives by tapping into their own power to overcome their own obstacles and break through their own barriers.
